We’re on track for Christmas 2025 and I’m continuing the fractured phrase: Hooray for Hollyweird! Most of us love movies and I enjoy recommending what you should watch on any given day. So, Hooray for Hollyweird … and for today’s recommendation, let’s go with a little-remembered film called “Let It Ride” and starring Richard Dreyfuss and Terri Garr.
“Let It Ride” has Dreyfuss as a degenerate gambler trying to go cold turkey on the activity so that he can reconcile with soon-to-be former wife Garr. However, he hits a roadblock when he gets the hottest of inside tips on a horse race for the coming week. Well, there the drama and hilarity begin.
“Let It Ride” has a quirky supporting cast from David Johansen as “Looney” (you might know him better as singer “Buster Poindexter”) to Robbie Coltrane to Jennifer Tilly to even a youthful Cynthia Nixon. The group pinballs around Dreyfuss and you’ll enjoy every one of them.
Well, Dreyfuss wins the “hot tip” race (it was fixed) and then starts to “let it ride” – that is, roll over the winnings to the next race. Now, you get the picture.
Along the way in “Let It Ride,” Dreyfuss has to deal with appeasing Garr; making bets; getting tips; fighting a rising desire for Tilly; dealing with “Looney” and a myriad of other potentially lifesaving or life-ending events.
You probably missed “Let It Ride,” so you’ll need to get in gear and find it quick … and when you do, you’ll definitely say … “Hooray for Hollyweird!”
