We’re on track for Christmas 2025 and I’m continuing the fractured phrase: Hooray for Hollyweird! Most of us love movies and I enjoy recommending what you should watch on any given day. So, Hooray for Hollyweird … and for today’s recommendation, let’s go with a little comedic fluff called “Mannequin” with Andrew McCarthy and Kim Cattrall.
“Mannequin” is one of those comedies that fails on virtually every level, but remains watchable because it is so awful. McCarthy didn’t do a good job; Cattrall didn’t do much better; and the saving grace is Meshach Taylor, who plays the stereotypical, but exuberant and wonderful, homosexual “Hollywood Montrose.”

Here is a film that doesn’t have many watchable qualities outside “Hollywood,” but you still find yourself enjoying “Mannequin.” It’s the story of a young man (of course, McCarthy) who is a department store designer and who finds himself strangely attracted to a mannequin. Well, when the film came out nearly 40 years ago, that was a strange attraction. Today? Not much so.
Naturally, the mannequin comes to life as Cattrall and so begins a love affair where no one but McCarthy sees her animated. Oh, well. You can guess the rest and all the stereotypes. I’m sure the homosexual community wasn’t (or still isn’t) pleased with the character of “Hollywood,” but at least Taylor makes it fun.
“Mannequin” can easily be found and you will actually thank me for suggesting it. So, get out there and find it … and when you do, you’ll definitely say … “Hooray for Hollyweird!”
