Christmas 2025: Dec. 23 is Christmas Movie Marathon Day!

Tomorrow, Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2024, is the annual Christmas Movie Marathon Day! It’s a day designated for folks, if they have the time, to devote to the watching of Christmas-themed movies. They’re all easy to find and it’s a good day to sit back, relax and enjoy Christmas films.

I’m not pointing up two of the most popular Christmas films because I’ll spend a day each on them beginning on Christmas Eve with the first and the next on Christmas Day.

So, turn on the tee-vee, sit back and enjoy!

For today, you can tee these up:

The former four films (total running time for all four is 447 minutes) are what run constantly at our home throughout the Christmas season beginning right after Thanksgiving.

All three are wonderful family fare, but also run the gamut of decidedly dramatic (“The Family Man”) to Chris Columbus specials (“Home Alone” and “Home Alone 2”) to Arnold Schwarzenegger battling bad Santas and his own malingering in getting a toy for his son’s Christmas.

Now, I come to a pair that usually brings discussion about being a “Christmas” movie:

I’ve come around to join the side of “yes, it’s a Christmas flick” for “Die Hard” with Bruce Willis battling terrorists who take over a corporate Christmas party (“Ho, ho, ho, now I have a machine gun”), but I’m still a little bit leery about admitting that “Trading Places” with Eddie Murphy, Dan Aykroyd and Jamie Lee Curtis is a “true” Christmas movie. “Trading Places” begins at Christmas, but the story winds up with a climax and denouement at the new year.

I guess it really doesn’t matter! Check ’em all out!

Finally, I come to a couple of the biggest Christmas flicks of them all:

Sorry, but I gotta give a “ho-hum” to both as well as all the “old” Christmas films. I’m not a big fan of films made prior to 1950 and the former was released in 1947 and the latter in 1946. OK, OK … enjoy these timeless Christmas classics if you will, but they don’t come close for today’s modern audience.

In any case …

… Merry Christmas and have a happy New Year!
