We’re in the stretch run to 2026 and I’m winding down for 2025 the fractured phrase: Hooray for Hollyweird! Most of us love movies and I enjoy recommending what you should watch on any given day. So, Hooray for Hollyweird … and for today, I’m recommending the magnificent gorefest called “Zombieland” with Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin and Woody Harrelson.
My first favorite zombie flick was director and horror legend George A. Romero’s “Dawn of the Dead” from 1979 and then that was surpassed 26 years later by the impressively creative “Shaun of the Dead” starring and co-written by Simon Pegg from 2004. Well, it took only another five years for a new gold standard for zombie fare with “Zombieland.”

** SPOILER ALERT **
“Zombieland” is just pitch-perfect and includes the best cameo by a Hollywood star since Brigitte Bardot did one in the 1965 comedy “Dear Brigitte” with the legendary James Stewart. In “Zombieland,” you get Bill Murray dressed up as a zombie so he can go out and “mingle.”
** SPOILER ALERT ENDS **
You’ll get the basic zombie storyline with this one, but Eisenberg elevates it with his “rules” to live by in “Zombieland.” Rules include: No. 1 – Cardio (fatties fall first); and No. 31 – always check the backseat (zombies tend to pop-up from there in a cinema stereotype).
Along with Eisenberg is zombie-killer extraordinaire Woody Harrelson, who uses such things as a banjo and hedge clippers to kill zombies (gonna take a “little off the top”). The duo comes across Stone and Breslin, who does the best acting work of the group, and the two duos fight on pretty much together after a rough start.
I don’t have much else to tell about “Zombieland,” so, go watch it! If you do, you’ll definitely say … “Hooray for Hollyweird!”
