We’re only a few days away to 2026 and I’m winding down for 2025 the fractured phrase: Hooray for Hollyweird! Most of us love movies and I enjoy recommending what you should watch on any given day. So, Hooray for Hollyweird … and for today, with the passing of screen- and cultural legend Brigitte Bardot at 91 on Dec. 28, 2025, let’s honor her by watching “Dear Brigitte” starring James Stewart.
“Dear Brigitte” is the only film in which I saw Ms. Bardot and, despite the title, she has a cameo of just 6 minutes and 5 seconds and went uncredited. In signing a contract for the film, Brigitte demanded no credit for her work, but didn’t insist that the film’s title not include her name (as the credits did not have it).

Bardot was an international star from films such as 1958’s “… And God Created Woman,” but withdrew from being in films in 1973 after just 60 acting credits including a variety of “music videos” in the 1960s. Bardot became a leading spokesperson in the animal rights movement and it remained the driving force for the remainder of her life. A ship used by the Sea Shepherd conservation group to battle Japanese whaling fleets was named after her. Click here to read a biography of her life …
Now, back to “Dear Brigitte” …
It is a wonderful family flick in which Stewart is an emotional college professor who fears the coming technological revolution of computers and acrimoniously and frequently quits his job in protest. However, his youngest child is a math prodigy, who makes an income by doing others’ homework and then begins handicapping horse races!
What does the boy do with the money? He buys “air mail” stamps (remember those?) to send love letters to Ms. Bardot and, of course, starts with, “Dear Brigitte.” Again of course, things work out that Brigitte has read his letters and invites him to visit her in France and he ultimately gets a kiss from her!
“Dear Brigitte” is simply endearing from beginning to end and Bardot had one of cinema’s best cameos with the film. I haven’t checked to see if it is easily found in this streaming day and age, but, if you do, you’ll definitely say … “Hooray for Hollyweird!”
