Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, today is Super Sunday for 2026 and, of course, the greatest Super Bowl movie of all time is “Black Sunday” starring Robert “Jaws” Shaw as the Israeli agent who uncovers the plot; Bruce Dern as the insane pilot who’s piloting the plot; and Marthe Keller as cold-hearted terrorist organizer “Dahlia Ilyad.”

Further with “Black Sunday,” you get scenes at the old Orange Bowl (now destroyed and where I saw many games with the Dolphins and five Super Bowls – I was even there as they shot exteriors of the blimp); a wonderful cameo of the late Dolphins owner Joe Robbie (announcing it would be like canceling Christmas to cancel the Super Bowl in the face of a terroristic threat); and a solid supporting cast including Fritz Weaver and Stephen Keats.

The essence of  the plot of “Black Sunday” is that Palestinian terrorists of the Black September variety (yes, Black September was part of the PLO, although that was strenuously denied by the PLO) hatched a plan to blow up the Super Bowl with the help of the American blimp pilot who bore a long grudge against the U.S. as well as being outstandingly psychotic.

Shaw initially makes the mistake of letting Keller go. He didn’t know at the time of the opening scene raid that she was a significant player in the terrorist organization. From there, it’s a race to the finish at the Super Bowl with the authorities trying to catch-up as the bad guys move along with their plot.

You’ll find that in “Black Sunday,” Shaw is solid; Keller does a great job; but it is Dern’s intense insanity that is the heart of the film. Dern is so good from his planning to speaking his philosophy to his taking great joy in shredding a poor company worker when testing his shrapnel-filled test bomb. You don’t want to miss his effort in this one.

So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” on this Super Sunday and watch “Black Sunday.” You’ll thank me later.
