Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, today I’m headed back to the comedy genre of cinema with Rodney Dangerfield in “Easy Money.” Here’s a sensationally funny flick that showcases Dangerfield’s considerable talent.
Dangerfield was quoted as saying his character in “Easy Money” is the closest to his own personality of any of his films … and that includes the comedy classic “Caddyshack” and the equally funny “Back to School.”
In “Easy Money,” Dangerfield plays “Monty Capuletti.” He enjoys drinking, some weed, gambling and smoking. To claim a large inheritance, he must give it all up for a year; get healthy; and then claim the prize. His friends, who smoke, drink and gamble at every turn, says it’ll be no problem: It’s “easy money.”
Of course, the hilarity begins as Dangerfield drops his bad habits, starts eating healthy (losing weight is another requirement) and begins an exercise routine. One family member, a daughter, is really the point of the spear in targeting the inheritance money and begins making sure he toes the line.
The rest of “Easy Money” plays out predictably: the oldest daughter’s new marriage is jeopardy after the first night; his new son-in-law poses a new obstacle; and he keeps watching his friends smoke, gamble and drink.
While “Easy Money” is a total showcase for Dangerfield’s manic form of comedy, Joe Pesci is at the top of the supporting cast and does a decent job without going Scorsese at any time (no carpet bombing of the F-word; no killing; no violence). The rest of the supporting cast is solid, but only as sidenotes to the Rodney show.
So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch “Easy Money.” You can easily find “Easy Money” on a variety of streaming services. Find it! Watch it! Don’t worry, you’ll thank me later for “Easy Money.”
