Ticket to the Movies: ‘Deadpool’ is the king of snark

Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, let’s hook up with just about the snarkiest super anti-hero with “Deadpool,” starring Ryan Reynolds as the king-of-snark headliner and title character; T.J. Miller as bartender “Weasel;” and Leslie Uggams in a nice small turn as “Blind Al,” who is the equally snarky roommate of Reynolds.

“Deadpool” is the story of Reynolds as a man with a terminal disease who, (in the words in my original review): “… becomes the focus of an experiment that leaves him disfigured but with miraculous healing powers and, I guess, superhero powers, too. Whatever they might be. Throughout “Deadpool,” the title character is running down guys trying to find the chief bad guy who caused all his pain. There you have it.”

The most impressive and most amusing parts of “Deadpool” is when Reynolds tosses off snarky comments faster than rimshots from Rodney Dangerfield. As the action gets more tense and ratchets itself up, Reynolds gets even snarkier. His insouciance and verve for anything of the moment defines the taproot of his character’s personality.

I usually deride the use of CGI in special effects since it usually replaces creativity, but in “Deadpool” it is used to perfection, just as the screenplay gives Reynolds the command of snarkiness that makes this movie.

So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch “Deadpool.” It is available primarily on Disney+, but can also be found for rent on a limited number of other streaming services. So, find it! Watch it! Don’t worry, you’ll thank me later for “Deadpool.” Yes, you will!
