The first two birds to our new high-tech bird feeder was a boat-tailed grackle (Quiscalus major) at right and then a blue jay (Cyanocitta cristata) on the left! With the help of our technologically advanced son, the “BirdBuddy” camera in the bird feeder came to life today (Saturday, May 30, 2026). I’m still working on how to capture photos from within the BirdBuddy app, so I just used my iPhone’s screen capture to grab these two images. The camera has a motion sensor and sends an alert to my iPhone when a bird visits and a small solar panel to power the camera. The new bird feeder is, of course, on the off our patio, outside of our pool screen.
