Here’s the second photo that I’ve taken of the magnificent agave americana that is doing its once-in-a-lifetime bloom on the edge of our backyard neighbor’s property here in Naples, Fla. It is also known as the Century Plant. The towering flower spike takes 10 years to 25 years of plant growth to emerge and grows up to 30 feet tall in just a matter of weeks. Ultimately, the entire plant dies after this blooming. Each photo has a date noted on it, with the first taken on March 17, 2026, when we noticed the tall flower stalk. The second was taken this morning (Sunday, May 31, 2026). I took each photo at approximately the same time and with the same angle for consistency. Keep checking back because I’m going to photograph each stage of the flowering.
