I keep making an assumption that no lower stupidity can be reached by closed captioning created by even more ignorant speech recognition and artificial intelligence. I keep promising myself that no matter what the idiocy I read on screen, I’ve seen it all before. I also keep being surprised that stupidity can continue to dive to depths such as today’s example. I was watching a YouTube video that has its own closed captioning and noticed that someone “sat at a camel at dinner.” What? WTF is that? So, I turned on YouTube’s closed captioning and saw that the originating video provider’s closed captioning screwed up: What it should have said was “sat at a candlelit dinner.” Oh, dear Lord. Well, another lesson learned by stupidity becoming even worse over time. I took this screenshot of our tee-vee at our home here in Naples, Fla., today (Friday, June 19, 2026).
