Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, today, let’s take a look at the legendary musical “Grease” and its pathetic sequel and so-called musical “Grease 2.” Of course, the original superhit stars John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, while the undeserving sequel stars Michelle Pfeiffer and Maxwell Caulfield.

While the “Grease(s)” are linked, they are worlds apart except in one way: The awful sequel has better chemistry between the stars than the original. Yes, Pfeiffer and Caulfield are better together than you ever find with Travolta and Newton-John.

Everyone knows (or at least it just appears to be so) that “Grease” is about a boy and girl after a summer romance where each is back to their real selves and it is a conflict since he’s a “bad” boy and she’s a “good” girl and it all plays out in their senior year at high school (despite Newton-John being 27). For “Grease 2,” it’s a similar path, but Pfeiffer and Caulfield arrive at their relationship at school and she’s the “bad” girl and he’s the “good” boy.

My full review is more of a comparison evaluation of the two films as opposed to my traditional reviews with a look at a majority of the primary cast members. “Grease” is the big-screen version of a Broadway hit musical, while “Grease 2” is an extension, with its director having her roots in the Broadway production, but without showing any of the talent she brought to the original.

The songs in  “Grease” were interesting from examining how the stars met to beach legend Frankie Avalon singing about one character moving back to high school after going to beauty school. For “Grease 2,” you get a contrived mess with crappy, sexual-based song-and-dance numbers from a high school classroom to an uncomfortable experience at a bowling alley with the cast singing “We’re Gonna Score Tonight.”

Sigh and sigh again.

Well, you know “Grease” and might somewhat recall “Grease 2,” but there’s a big difference.

So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch both “Grease” as well as“Grease 2.” They are available on a limited number of subscription services and are available to rent via several other streaming services. Don’t worry, you’ll thank me later if you watch both “Grease”  and “Grease 2.”
