Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, let’s check out a really solid action flick with “Under Siege” starring Steven Seagal along with Tommy Lee Jones, Gary Busey, Erika Eleniak and, in a brief spot, Patrick O’Neal.

While Seagal hasn’t done much in recent years, he did have a span of time when his action flicks were solid at the box office. “Under Siege” is one of Seagal’s best, but its sequel is a horrible mess. Seagal’s last “acting” credit was in 2019 and Rotten Tomatoes’ ratings of his 11 films from 2016 through 2019 are, well, rotten. Still, “Under Siege” is many cuts above all of his most recent trash.

In “Under Siege,” you get Seagal as a cook aboard the battleship U.S.S. Missouri. After a ceremony at Pearl Harbor, the ship was on its final voyage to be decommissioned. Well, some mercenaries, led by Jones, manage to hijack the ship and Seagal, who is really with the Special Forces but in exile as a cook, leads the rebellion against the bad guys, who are looking to steal nuclear weapons from the Missori’s armory.

Along the way you get Busey as a psychotic ship’s officer in cahoots with the mercenaries; Eleniak as the woman hired to jump out of a cake at a party set up as a diversion for the crew (she manages an impressive solo performance out of the cake and then becomes Seagal’s sidekick in kickin’ butt); and a variety of supporting cast members as either U.S. sailors or mercenaries.

“Under Siege” is a quietly great action flick that doesn’t usually come to mind when the discussion turns to action on the big screen. It has neat performances by Jones as the quirky leader of the mercenaries; Busey’s psychotic mania; and the variety of emotions dragged up from the rest of the supporting cast.

Seagal is Segal here with his Zen-forced calm, unnerving competence at violence and unwavering mission for good to triumph over evil.

Despite what you might initially consider a limited space for action (aboard a ship, albeit an 877-foot-long battleship), the vessel provides both interior and exterior scenes that move the story along, rather than just be a bridge between fights.

So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch “Under Siege.” It was available on a limited number of subscription services in mid-2026 and available for rent via a variety of other platforms. You will thank me later when you watch “Under Siege” today!
