Ticket to the Movies: ‘For Your Eyes Only’ is just a milquetoast ‘007’

Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, let’s head back into the world of “Bond, James Bond” with the massively milquetoast (by “007” standards) “For Your Eyes Only” with Roger Moore as our superspy and a mostly undistinguished supporting cast – except for real-life ice skater and Golden Globe nominee (not for this one) Lynn-Holly Johnson as the supervillain’s “protégé.”

“For Your Eyes Only” has a potentially solid supporting cast headed by Oscar nominee and two-time Golden Globe winner Topol (he didn’t win or be nominated for this one). You also get Julian Glover as the looks-like-good-guy-but is-the-bad-guy and he’s the chief bad guy in “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” and he was also “Gen. Veers” in “Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back;” and finally you have Michael Gothard as the bad guy’s chief henchman.

The plot of “For Your Eyes Only” isn’t worth repeating other than it is save-the-world “Bondian” in nature, but never manages to elevate itself to even adequate status.

Moore offers a rather “I’m collecting a paycheck” effort in this one.

From my full review: “Still, the biggest problem is that where once went Ursula Andress (“Honey Ryder” in “Dr. No” – click here to read my review); Honor Blackman (“Pussy Galore” in “Goldfinger” – click here to read my review or read my look at her career as she passed at 94 in April 2020); Jill St. John (“Tiffany Case” in “Diamonds are Forever” – click here to read my review); and Jane Seymour (“Solitare” in “Live and Let Die” – click here to read my review), you get … Carole Bouquet as “Melina Havelock.” Wow. Ahem … uh, underwhelming.”

So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch “For Your Eyes Only.” It is available on a variety of rental platforms. You will thank me later if you find it and watch “For Your Eyes Only.”
