Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, we’ll stay on a “Bond, James Bond” theme today, but with a better effort by “007” than the past two I’ve recommended (“For Your Eyes Only” and “Moonraker”): “The Spy Who Loved Me” with Roger Moore and co-starring my favorite Bond counterpart, Barbara Bach as agent “XXX.”

“The Spy Who Loved Me” has the usual “007” accoutrements of international settings from skiing in Austria to the pyramids of Egypt to a Lotus supercar that becomes a submarine to an island chase with a helicopter to having “James Bond” on the world’s first “waterbike” (jet-ski) in the ocean as well as the supervillain who wants to stir up trouble between the then-Soviet Union and the U.S.  and U.K.

However, it is Bach who shines as the deadly Russian spy “Maj. Anya Amasova” and she’s right up there in “007’s” world with the classic Ursula Andress (“Honey Ryder” in “Dr. No” – click here to read my review); the iconic Honor Blackman (“Pussy Galore” in “Goldfinger” – click here to read my review or read my look at her career as she passed at 94 in April 2020); the wonderful Jill St. John (“Tiffany Case” in “Diamonds are Forever” – click here to read my review); and and a youngish Jane Seymour (“Solitare” in “Live and Let Die” – click here to read my review).

The two agents go on a mission together after competing for a piece of information, but the plot doesn’t really matter. You want to see Moore’s snarky version of “007” and seeing how Bach will handle the next scene “The Spy Who Loved Me.”

BTW … here’s an excerpt from IMDb.com: “The film introduced a spy sea scooter known as a “wetbike” (better known now as a jet ski) to the world, sparking a new water-sport industry. This gadget was commonly referred to as the ‘motorbike that rides on water.’”

So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch “The Spy Who Loved Me.” It is available on a variety of rental platforms. You will thank me later if you find it and watch “The Spy Who Loved Me.”
