Each Aug. 23 is national Cuban Sandwich Day and today is Aug. 23, 2026. Yes, there is an annual celebration of the Cuban sandwich and since I was born in Miami in the 1950s and grew up there through the 1960s, the influence of Cuban-Americans has been part of my life. So, the Cuban sandwich is something special. The origin of the sandwich is credited to immigrants from Cuba to Tampa and Key West much earlier than the 1960s. I’d enjoy to be back in Little Havana in the 1970s for the real deal. I’m giving my salute today to Cuban Sandwich Day! I got this shot of a Cuban sandwich for national Hoagie Day at our home here in Naples, Fla., in March 2026.
