OK, so it’s been a couple of months since I made another batch of my “three-pepper chili,” but I’m back in the “chili” game today (Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2026) since autumn “officially” begins just after 8 p.m. and, so, summer ends. The “three” is peppers that I use in my recipe: Habanero, Serrano and Jalepeño. The peppers, with Habanero the hottest, give this chili a bit of a “bite,” but not as if I had used a “ghost pepper” (bhut jalokia), Trinidad Moruga Scorpion, Carolina Reaper or the newest “hottest one” one: “Pepper X,” from the same developer of the Carolina reaper. I use McCormick “Tex-Mex” seasoning because I’m not accomplished enough to blend my own spices! I staged this photo today in the kitchen at our home here in Naples, Fla.
