Each Sept. 25 is national Comic Book Day (not to be confused with Free Comic Book Day on the first Saturday each May) and so today, Friday, Sept. 25, 2026, I offer up the closest thing we have to a comic book in our home: A Mad Magazine compilation edition. I certainly had all the superhero-type comics back-in-the-day, but Mad was, is and will always be my favorite. It was originally a comic book at its debut in 1952 and moved to magazine format in 1955. From an internet source: “National Comic Book Day inspires fans to explore the vibrant world of sequential art every September 25.” I took this photo today at our home here in Naples, Fla.
