Ticket to the Movies: ‘Dear Brigitte’ is a wonderful flick with Bardot’s perfect cameo

Welcome back to my blog. Here’s my recommendation of a movie to check out today and hope you punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” OK, let’s again take a cinematic time machine back to the 1960s and watch “Dear Brigitte” starring James Stewart and featuring one of cinema’s greatest cameos from the late Brigitte Bardot.

In “Dear Brigitte,” Bardot has just 6 minutes and 5 seconds in an uncredited appearance. In signing a contract for the film, Brigitte demanded no credit for her work, but didn’t insist that the film’s title not include her name (as the credits did not have it). So, for marketing purposes, Brigitte’s name was used. I’d say she should have been a bit more specific with her contract!

“Dear Brigitte” is simply a most wonderful family flick in which Stewart is an emotional college professor who fears the coming technological revolution of computers and acrimoniously and frequently quits his job in protest. However, his youngest child is a math prodigy, who makes an income by doing others’ homework and then begins handicapping horse races!

What does the boy do with the money? He buys “air mail” stamps (remember those?) to send love letters to Ms. Bardot and, of course, starts with, “Dear Brigitte.” Again of course, things work out that Brigitte has read his letters and invites him to visit her in France and he ultimately gets a kiss from her!

Make sure you find “Dear Brigitte” because you simply need to see this iconic flick.

BTW … Bardot was an international star from films such as 1958’s “… And God Created Woman,” but withdrew from being in films in 1973 after just 60 acting credits including a variety of “music videos” in the 1960s. Bardot became a leading spokesperson for animal right and the issue remained the driving force for the remainder of her life.  A ship used by the Sea Shepherd conservation group to battle Japanese whaling fleets was named after her. So, I say punch your “Ticket to the Movies!” and watch “Dear Brigitte.” You can find it for rent on a limited number of streaming platforms. You will thank me later, if you watch or re-watch “Dear Brigitte.”
