While I’m not sure this was a green iguana, it was an iguana … with the emphasis on “was.” Earlier today (Sunday, Oct. 18, 2026), I drove around what I initially perceived to be a stick or piece of a palm frond on the roadway (a common sight on our highways), but as I passed, I saw it was an iguana. Well, the driver behind me didn’t swerve and ran over the creature, which had obviously been sunning itself on the road. I turned back and took this photo of the remains. The other photo that I took of what I believed was a young green iguana showed it holding up traffic here in Naples in 2023. Also, please note that green iguanas are not native to south Florida and that iguanas are becoming more of a commonplace sight. I was driving near our home when I stopped and took this photo.
