It’s hurricane season again … sigh!
Being a native of South Florida, I’ve always enjoyed the summers and the resultant pretty much year-round summer conditions. Still, June 1, while not yet officially summer, brings us a new hurricane season in the Atlantic each year.
We can only hope that we are not the next victims of one of these powerful storms.
Typically the early season (June and July) are quiet, with August and September the really bad months. However, storms come as early as May and there have been seasons that close on Nov. 30 with storms still active.
I do some random update on Facebook and Twitter under the heading “HURRICANE HYSTERI(A)CS” as my way of doing a bit of Chicken Little for most and then trying to turn a little humor into the situation.
Here are the two best links you can bookmark that might help you this hurricane season:
- The National Hurricane Center … and its new NHC blog
- The Weather Underground’s tropical coverage area
Here are some others you might want to investigate:
- One that looks interesting but I haven’t tried is Live Recon in the Atlantic
- This year’s names for storms
- Here’s a thing called the Caribbean Hurricane Network
