Well, Walt Disney World has finally accepted what I knew all along: EPCOT should be all capital letters — EPCOT. IT’S AN ACRONYM! At one point in the mid-1990s, some idiots thought it would be better to do Epcot. Wrong! Wrong! Sorry, Imagineers involved, I don’t like to be critical of you, but it was a big, big mistake. Wrong then and luckily the wrong has now been corrected as of February 2020. The name has always stood for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow – EPCOT. Not. Epcot. It was an acronym and will always be an acronym – no matter what some PR fools ever thought. Some call it a “name change” today. Sigh. I call it correcting a mistake and, thankfully, someone (or some folks) regained their senses and brought back the real name. Here’s a shot of the biggest mistake ever for EPCOT: This sign with the lower-case letters. I got it in 2004 and it had been up since 2000 and would be taken down in 2007. Click here for my original post about the sign … (Remember: Click on the image for a bigger version – then click on that one for the full-size photo.)
