Here’s why I never believe the “range” read-out on my Honda Civic’s dash display. I gassed up the car on the morning of Sept. 5, 2020, near our home here in Naples, Fla. After filling up, the readout noted that the car had a “range” of 444 miles. Well, four miles later, the range was up to 472 miles; two miles after that it was up to 501 miles; and finally, 10 miles after leaving the gas station, it was up to 528 miles. So, the message here is that the engineers at Honda need to re-engineer this feature. I know that by the afternoon, the “range” will have decreased. However, it remains an error of nasty proportions. Thank goodness that I know how many miles I actually get on a tank of gas and, yes, I understand the range is for how you’re driving at the moment, but I drive the same (about 40-50 mph) at all times now because of limited driving due to coronavirus restrictions. Still, Honda should address this problem. Oh, also, note how the temperature changes from 78 degrees to 76 to 75 and finally to 77. All within 10 miles.
