Watch It! “Looker” had a lot of promise, but nudity, bad acting and incompetent direction sank it very quickly. “Looker” is a cult fav in the sci-fi world (at least it was sci-fi when it was released in 1981). Today? It’s almost a blueprint for “deep-fake” video. So, it is a film with a lot of creativity and promise and delivers only marginally on either level. “Looker” is the story of a bunch of beautiful models being “scanned” and their resulting images used to create virtual commercials (can anyone say “deep-fake”). Then, murder comes along and the killer is using a “Looker” device! Uh, oh! You get Susan Dey in the co-starring role, but the main culprit in this mess is the usually great Michael Crichton, but he’s deficient with “Looker” as the writer and director. In any case, check it out and … just Watch It!
