Memorial Day 2021: Remember those who sacrificed all in service to our country

Today is May 31, 2021: Memorial Day. It is the day set aside each year to honor those in the armed forces who gave their lives in service to the United States. The holiday began as “Decoration Day” in which folks decorated the graves of the fallen in their families. Now, after two world wars, the conflicts in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, etc., it is simply Memorial Day. However, there’s nothing simple about the ultimate sacrifice made to keep the United States free and a world leader. Here’s a photo I shot on May 30, 2021, here in our hometown of Naples, Fla. The Headquarters branch of the Collier County Public Library had its U.S. and POW flags at half-staff in memory of the recent multiple victims of a shooting in California. Personally, I hope they remain at half-staff today to honor the fallen on Memorial Day. BTW … click here to get information about when U.S. flags are flown at half-staff – and that’s half-mast aboard a ship … or … click here to read and view all my posts and photos about Memorial Day … (Remember: Click on the small image for a bigger version – then click on that one for the full-size photo.)
