Watch It! “The Bedford Incident” is one of the rare movies in black-and-white that I rate as “spectacular.” Just as I’m not a fan of Westerns (my biggest heresy in cinema), but, for my second biggest, I do not care for movies in black-and-white. “The Bedford Incident” is a Cold War thriller told from the perspective of a U.S. ship in the North Atlantic that is tracking a Russian missile submarine. “The Bedford Incident” lays bare the U.S. skipper’s psychotic behavior and how those around him react to it. “The Bedford Incident” stars Richard Widmark as the skipper as well as Sidney Poitier as a magazine writer doing a story on the Navy man. Here is a tale well-told with a solid supporting cast (including James MacArthur and Wally Cox) that any headliner or director would love to have on a set. So, find “The Bedford Incident” and … Watch It!
