Watch It! “The Jericho Mile” is a very interesting TV movie from 1979 that has an inmate behind bars for murder who runs with international-class speed. “The Jericho Mile” has drama beyond the sport, as it is set in California’s tough Folsom prison and has the prison undercurrents of drugs and race. “The Jericho Mile” was directed by the now legendary Michael Mann, who would go on to fame with “Miami Vice” and it is more of a motion picture for the big screen than your basic TV flick. I like that the film has both a hopeful message and success at one level at the end for the prisoner, but it is not saccharine and doesn’t come away with everyone happy and satisfied.
