You have to look close, but this great egret has a lizard in its beak. The egret was hunting in a median and I was stopped at a red light near our home here in Naples, Fla., when I got this shot today (Sunday, May 15, 2022). The bird found its prey and then then … gulp! … the lizard was gone! Birds often hunt in landscaped medians, as they have become used to vehicles going past them as they hunt. Great egrets are also called white herons. Click here for my other photos of great egrets … (Remember: Click on the small image for a bigger version – then click on that one for the full-size photo.)
