The latest stupidity of closed captioning that I’ve seen shows that the officers on the TV show “Adam-12” were ahead of their time – as in maybe having “Harry Potter” as an adviser. The officers were told to “hold your position,” but the incompetent closed captioning has it as “hold your potion.” I guess they were also issued with magic wands and training time at “Hogwarts” instead of being sent to the police academy. Ah well. I got this shot off our home big screen this morning (Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2022) as I watched a re-run of “Adam-12” (season 6, episode 6 called “Hot Shot”). As I’ve noted before, today’s voice-recognition closed captioning is cheaper than using one human being to convert the dialog to words and then an editor to make sure it was done correctly.
