Countdown to Halloween ’22 … at No. 15 … ‘Christine’

OK! It’s the season of Halloween 2022! I’m doing a countdown of my 17 favorite horror flicks that I’ve reviewed for my blog … and today’s finds us at No. 15: “Christine,” which is the adaptation from the Stephen King novel. “Christine” has all the elements in place to be great (a solid cast; a good translation from novel to film; and the legendary horror director John “Halloween” Carpenter), but somehow is just never comes together to make it the film it should have been. “Christine” is the story of an evil car (a 1958 Plymouth Fury) that takes over the soul of the owner. Enter two high school boys and one falls in love with car. You can probably guess what happens next with “Christine.”

“Christine” offers a wonderful less-than-A-list cast including Keith Gordon as the guy who falls for the car; John Stockwell as his best friend; and Alexandra Paul as the beautiful girl at school who begins to date Gordon, who has become quite sure-of-himself after getting “Christine.” Obviously, the novel is better (I call it King’s best work), but the film is watchable.

Check back tomorrow for No. 14 …
