OK! It’s the season of Halloween 2022! I’m doing a countdown of my 17 favorite horror flicks that I’ve reviewed for my blog … and today’s finds us at No. 10: “An American Werewolf in London.” I’m not a huge fan of the werewolf genre in horror (I’m more of a vampire, zombie or slasher movie), but “An American Werewolf in London” is simply one of the best-ever horror flicks! “American Werewolf” is from the fertile cinematic mind of John Landis, who brought us “National Lampoon’s Animal House” and “Trading Places” (click here for my review). In “American Werewolf,” you have a couple of American travelers caught up in a werewolf attack and the survivor becomes one himself. Although gore and violence are key in “American Werewolf” (especially the transformation scene that helped win it an Oscar for makeup), this one is a complete film more than worthy of your time.
The cast of “American Werewolf” isn’t A-list, but they each do a great job, from the Americans to the British doctor and nurse to the patrons of a rather eclectic bar with a pentagram on the wall.
So, revisit this classic and it is easy to find “An American Werewolf in London” at Halloween time!
