Today’s “must” movie is “Little Giants.” On this Super Bowl Sunday (Feb. 12, 2023), I’m offering up a recommendation of an endearing “little” film that shouldn’t leave a dry eye in the house. Of course, “Little Giants” is the story of a bunch of cast-offs who gel and then win it all (no spoiler alert – you knew this already).
Yesterday for the Super Bowl, I recommended a serious dramatic film “Black Sunday,” but not today. Today is reserved for all that is right and righteous about competitive sports and the Super Bowl is the peak of the mountain in U.S. football (I’ll put it that way as an offering to our “soccer” friends).
The best thing about “Little Giants” is the work by Ed O’Neill, who was at his peak on TV’s “Married With Children” when the film had its premiere. O’Neill, who all too easily plays a sexist egotistical football star, manages to show a human side that turns the film from stereotypical to endearing (check out the scene with him and his niece in the diner).
Make sure you go out of your way to watch “Little Giants.” You won’t be disappointed … I guarantee it!
