Today’s “must” movie is “Gotcha!” Here is one of two films from Hollywood’s smallest genre: an school game called “Killer” where people cavort around the campus “pretending” to kill each other with toy guns or paintball guns. “Gotcha!” couldn’t happen today because what would happen if you “pretended” to run around any high school or college campus and “shoot” at folks with a toy gun?
In any case, “Gotcha!” is less of a story about the game and becomes actually an espionage story worthy of any John le Carré spy novel. Anthony Edwards plays “Jonathan Moore” and he finds adventure on a spring break trip to Paris (and then on to East Berlin) that surpasses even his passion for playing a game back home.
I like how “Gotcha!” starts out like a TV movie, but manages to segue into a real spy caper and becomes a motion picture. When Edwards returns home from his spring break trip, he tells his story and that convinces his parents that he’s hooked on drugs!
In any case, you’ll enjoy “Gotcha!” (in the game, whenever someone “shoots” another player, they say, “Gotcha!”) because the best acting is from actor’s actor but apparently the difficult-to-work-with Linda Fiorentino … she’s the femme fatale and instigator of the whole spy business.
So, go it’s time to find “Gotcha!” You won’t be disappointed if you watch it … I guarantee it!
