Today’s “must” movie is “New Jack City.” Here’s a tour-de-force from Wesley Snipes as a drug kingpin who becomes a tumor on both the body and soul of an entire community. “New Jack City” is tough, violent, gritty and just about any other way to say or write tough, violent and gritty.
In “New Jack City,” Snipes heads a group of thugs and killers who bring crack cocaine to a housing development. They take over the entire building through cruel violence and the money rolls in. So do the problems. Setting sail against Snipes and his gang is Ice-T, who is backed up by former “Brat-packer” Judd Nelson and their boss Mario Van Peebles, who both acts in the film and is its director.
If you watch this again, you might have forgotten the gut-punch that “New Jack City” delivers in just about every scene. If you haven’t seen it, get ready for the punch. Van Peebles did a magnificent job in bringing this one to the big screen.
It’s simply a string of crimes that “New Jack City” wasn’t even nominated for major awards such as an Oscar or Golden Globe. Oh, no pun intended with a “simply a crime.” The first crime is that Snipes wasn’t nominated for acting, while the second is that Van Peebles wasn’t nominated for his direction.
You shouldn’t have much if any trouble finding “New Jack City.” Check it out today! You won’t be disappointed. I guarantee it!
