We all know why voice recognition is second-rate in today’s closed captioning of entertainment. We all also need a regular reminder of just how stupid closed captioning has become along with technology. There’s simply no excuse for ongoing, egregious errors. In this example, closed captioning screwed up a line in the opening credits song for the iconic TV show “The Brady Bunch.” As you probably know, the line is … “Here’s the story, of a lovely lady …” Well, closed captioning destroys that by translating it as her being a “loly lady.” Sigh. I got this shot off our big screen in the family room of our home here in Naples, Fla., today (Sunday, July 9, 2023).
