Today, Aug. 25, 2023, is the 60th anniversary of the climactic date in Frederick Forsyth’s novel “The Day of the Jackal.” Here is the first modern novel that was the inspiration for me to become a reader of novels. I enjoyed the novel and film so much that “The Day of the Jackal” has become a personal holiday for myself. So, I’m off work on PTO today to begin to re-read the novel and watch the film.
Today, I am at the tenth August 25 on my blog for posting something about “The Day of the Jackal” novel and its corresponding film. Of course, Forsyth’s novel “The Day of the Jackal” is about an assassin on the trail of French President Charles de Gaulle and arrives that novel’s climax on a hot day in August of 1963.
If you haven’t read the novel, which was published in 1971, it is the first place to start. The film is outstanding and the gold standard as an example of how to bring a novel to the big screen. However, you need to start with the source material. So, it’s easy to find “The Day of the Jackal” in paperback or e-book. You’ll see it’s my movie suggestion for today on my blog.
Also, I’ve included the links below to all my “Jackal” content.
Enjoy!
