Today’s “must” movie is “Moneyball” with Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill. “Moneyball,” as you’re most likely aware, is the name for a baseball team evaluating players completely on statistics. Teams need to buy “wins” and not “players,” notes Hill’s character in the film.
“Moneyball” is the best movie ever nominated for multiple Oscars and was not a winner in even one category. “Moneyball” was nominated for best picture, best actor (Pitt), best supporting actor (Hill) and nominations for film editing and sound mixing. Still … nada for one of the best movies of the year in 2011.
Of course, Hollyweird isn’t always impressed with movies about baseball, but Pitt, Hill and a tremendous supporting cast including the late Philip Seymour Hoffman and Chris Pratt do just about all it takes to make a winner of an Oscar. Except in this one. Sigh.
I won’t delve into any details of the plot of “Moneyball” because I’m sure you’ve seen this one before, so take my word and enjoy it again. Oh, and here’s a reminder: “Moneyball” is NOT a documentary and plays very fast and loose with the real facts of the real story. Remember. It’s a movie!
You won’t have any trouble finding “Moneyball” (it was on HBO the day before I posted this item on my blog) and you should make it a priority. You won’t be disappointed. I guarantee it!
