Today’s “must” movie is “Manhunter.” Here is the film that introduced “Dr. Hannibal ‘The Cannibal’ Lecter” to movie audiences. Unfortunately, his name was spelled “Lecktor,” but it is the same murderous character you came to love in “The Silence of the Lambs.” However, “Manhunter” was brought to the big screen years before “Silence” and by Michael Mann, who would become for famous for TV’s “Miami Vice.”
“Manhunter” was originally told in the novel “Red Dragon” and is about the FBI’s behavior science unit that works to find serial killers. When “Manhunter” arrived on screen, little was known about the FBI unit that is now a commonplace fixture in many stories about crime.
William Petersen, who would go on to bigger fame on TV’s “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” portrays a former FBI specialist, who is called back to duty after a nasty attack by “Lecktor.” Well and of course, he does his job well and everything is basically messed up until the end when the bad guy is finally put away forever.
So, find “Manhunter,” so that you can experience a solid crime drama and you’ll enjoy it. I guarantee it!
