Today’s ‘must see’ movie: ‘T-34’ has many stereotypes, but battle sequences are solid

Today’s “must” movie is “T-34” and it’s the story of a Russian tank commander from his first taste of combat in World War II in the legendary T-34 tank to a prisoner of war compound and ultimately a showdown with the nearly as legendary Panther tank of Nazi Germany.

“T-34” is dubbed and is nothing more, really, than a propaganda film by Russians today extolling the virtues of Communism in Soviet Russia in WWII. “T-34” is nowhere near being a great film, but, despite its stereotypes and shortcomings (thankfully no scene of a woman giving birth in a tank as so many war films offer such as “The Big Red One” about U.S. troops in WWII), it is watchable.

The “T-34” tank commander is taken prisoner after the initial combat and is a totally recalcitrant POW. He and several other POW tankers are chosen to get a captured new model T-34/85 running and will have combat with novice German tankers in their Panthers. Of course, the tank commander will dish out far more than what he was expected to take when the film ends.

You most likely won’t see any of the actors in “T-34” in Hollyweird efforts any time soon, but they do good to solid work in this one. However, the best part of the film is the combat sequences, right down to the T-34 versus Panther duel at the end.

You can find it on streaming services, so, rent “T-34” … you’ll enjoy it. I guarantee it!
