Boo! We’re in the countdown to Halloween 2023! Today on Oct. 16, the big scare recommendation is “Christine” from the novel by Stephen King.
Although “Christine” is more supernatural-based and less horror-based (just like tomorrow’s recommendations of “Night of the Comet” and “They Live”), here is a nice adaptation of a Stephen King best-selling novel. Filmmakers did an OK job of translating one of King’s typical works in which he spends dozens of pages spelling out detail and nuance.
However, “Christine,” while having good parts and good work by most of the cast, just really never gels and you’ll leave feeling that someone was missing in it.
“Christine” is the story of two high school buddies: one the BMOC and the other a nerd. However, the nerd turns things around in ways he’d never imagine after finding and falling in love … with a car. The car is beaten down and barely drivable, but it becomes an obsession with the young man.
As “Christine,” as the car was named by its original owner, becomes more entrenched in the boy’s soul, it reanimates itself and even takes revenge on those who vandalize it as a way to get to the nerd.
All in all, it’s an interesting story (King’s best novel in my opinion) and should have come off better in the end.
So, continue your Halloween season with “Christine” … You’ll enjoy it; I guarantee it!
