Boo! Halloween season 2023: ‘An American Werewolf in London’ simply the best modern werewolf flick

Boo! We’re in the countdown to Halloween 2023! Today on Oct. 19, the big scare recommendation is the horror classic “An American Werewolf in London” from director John Landis. As we get deeper into the Halloween season this year, we’re into real horror territory with a werewolf today after yesterday’s vampires!

“An American Werewolf in London” is simply the best werewolf flick over the past five decades or so and mixes horror, blood and sensational non-CGI special effects to create a iconic and legendary horror experience.

For “An American Werewolf …,” you have a couple of Americans who find themselves in a strange rural pub with a pentagram on the wall inside. Next thing you know, they’ve been sent on their way and are attacked on the moor by a creature everyone realizes is a werewolf.

The main character, played by David Naughton, is the survivor, but he begins being visited by his dead friend, who continues to decompose even though he’s been animated from the dead because of the werewolf aspect.

Next comes the best part of “An American Werewolf …” as you see the transformation from human to werewolf. Primarily because of this scene, “An American Werewolf …” won the first Oscar ever for makeup. It is well-deserved and you take that to the bank.

Let’s continue your Halloween season with “An American Werewolf in London” … you’ll really enjoy it; I guarantee it!
