Boo! We’re in the countdown to Halloween 2023! Today on Oct. 23, the big scare recommendation takes a notch up with “Prom Night.” Here is one of three films featuring “Scream Queen” Jamie Lee Curtis from 1980. “Prom Night” is totally solid and it should be one of your staples at Halloween time.
“Prom Night” is a continuation of the “slasher” genre of horror films that Jamie Lee pioneered with “Halloween” from 1978. Of course, she’s in high school and there’s a … guess what? Slasher on the loose. There’s a complicated back story to the plot, but forget it: You just want the horror aspect! You also get Leslie Nielsen … and don’t call him “Shirley.”
The red herrings appear fast and furious in “Prom Night” and it’s interesting to see nearly 45 years ago what teenagers were doing (high schoolers were more like middle schoolers today).
So, “Prom Night” is a great horror flick as we move forward (or is that “movie forward”) in this Halloween season. Find “Prom Night” … enjoy it; I guarantee you will!
