Today’s “must” movie is “10” … the comedy classic starring Dudley Moore, Julie Andrews and, of course, Bo Derek. “10” was the No. 7 film of 1979 and everyone fell in love with Bo Derek, slow-motion beach running scenes and … well, slow-motion beach running scenes.
I say that “10” is just about the pure example of the definition of an intelligent “adult” comedy. I write “adult” because it doesn’t delve into college-type antics (or is “adult” in a crude, vulgar way), yet has some nudity (watch Moore’s neighbor at a pool table), but relies on crisp dialogue and an absolutely wonderful story that segues from one funny moment to an even funnier one.
“10” is the story of a man who gets struck with a mid-life crisis after seeing Bo Derek in her wedding dress on her way to her wedding. It follows to the church, the minister’s home, a dentist’s office (her father) and ultimately to a beach resort in Mexico where he joins their honeymoon!
Of course, you’re on the floor for most of “10” because the comedy is bright, energetic and intelligent. No “Three Stooges” humor here, although Moore’s physical comedy does approach that level at times, spurred on mainly by alcohol and pain-killers.
In the end, of course and naturally, everything works out and everyone is happy (for the most part).
You won’t have any trouble finding “10” and even if you’ve seen it 10 times (or more), you should always watch it another time. You’ll have fun with it. I guarantee it!
