Today’s “must” movie is “True Lies” with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis. Here is a tremendously sensational action flick that has it all: action, Arnie, action, Jamie Lee and even … Tom Arnold (yes, I wrote, “Tom Arnold”). “True Lies” earned both Oscar and Golden Globe nominations, but it is worthy of so much more!
“True Lies” is the story of Schwarzenegger as a James Bond-ian type spy whose home life suffers because he’s always away … saving the world. Well, the story finds its way to a plot to set off a nuclear bomb in the U.S. and Arnie’s leading the good guys when Jamie Lee gets mixed up in it all, along with their daughter (played well by Elizabeth Dushku).
Along the way, you get Arnie on a horse chasing an Arab terrorist on a motorcycle; to a dangling of Jamie Lee from a helicopter; to part of the Florida Keys’ bridge blown up by U.S. Marine Corps Harrier jump-jets; to a sexy striptease by Jamie Lee interrupted by terrorists with guns. Whew and WHEW!
The most unexpected joy of “True Lies” is Arnold with his ongoing stream of one-liners and the continual kibitzes he lays on Arnie. Other nice work from the supporting cast includes a wonderful bit part by Bill Paxton as the used-car salesman pretending to be a spy to get into Jamie Lee’s pants; Art Malik as the wild-eyed terrorist; and Grant Heslov as the third member of Schwarzenegger’s team.
You won’t want to miss a minute of “True Lies” because the action is outstanding, the cinematography great and the work by a director whose work you might already have seen: James Cameron, who was responsible for such films as “Titanic,” “Avatar” and “Aliens.”
So, we’re past Thanksgiving 2023 and headed to Christmas, so find “True Lies” … you’ll enjoy it immensely … I guarantee it!
