Honor the memory of Pear Harbor on its 82nd anniversary by watching ‘Tora! Tora! Tora!’

Today’s “must” movie is “Tora! Tora! Tora!” on this Dec. 7, 2023, at the 82nd anniversary of the Japanese attack on the U.S. fleet at Pear Harbor. Much of  the world had been waging war for more than two years when the Japanese decided to launch the strike that spelled doom for the Axis powers: The United States was brought fully into what became called World War II and tipped the balance of power in favor of the good guys.

President Franklin Delano Roosevelt stood before Congress and the nation and called Dec. 7 the day of infamy, and so, you should watch “Tora! Tora! Tora!.” It is a Hollywood effort that every follower of WWII history and cinema must see. “Tora! Tora! Tora!” marks the beginning of the end of the Empire of Japan’s effort in WWII.

After the attack, the U.S. began its inexorable march to conquer their attackers and confront fascism in Europe. “Tora! Tora! Tora!” is totally worth your time on his historic day – and the anniversary is why U.S. flags are to be flown at half-staff today across the country.

“Tora! Tora! Tora!” is an interesting film because it is even-handed in its portrayal of both the United States and Japan. It isn’t a propaganda film against the Japanese (after all, they kicked butt at Pearl Harbor), but it does show the inherent resilience of the United States and its military.

“Tora! Tora! Tora!” is a big-screen, big-budget and has a huge cast to tell its sprawling tale. Interestingly, the film did better at the box office in Japan as it did in the U.S. Please take time to watch this film today and, better yet, make sure to recall the sacrifice of those who served at Pearl Harbor and beyond to curtail the Axis dream of conquering the world.
