Today’s “must” movie is getting us near the finish line in my annual Christmas(time) countdown of flicks. Today, Dec. 23, 2023, brings us to the third- and fourth-best modern Christmas films with “Home Alone” and “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.” Thankfully, you can get past McCauley Culkin putting shaving lotion on his face because these are really great for the Christmas season.
Of course, you’ve seen both and know the story. A kid gets left “Home Alone” at Christmas. He then has quite an adventure in each one as he foils burglars who targeted his family home in the original and then foils the same burglars who are going to rip off a toy store on Christmas Eve night in New York City.
The best thing about both “Home Alone(s)”is that you get Chris Columbus in the director’s chair for both and that John Hughes wrote both. It simply doesn’t get any better than that pairing for just about any film. The execution of the kid being left “Home Alone” is creative and wonderfully set up.
Well, there isn’t really anything else I need to tell you about “Home Alone” or “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.” You’ve seen them and there are no surprises, just a fun film at Christmas.
Just like all my Christmas(time) film recommendations, you won’t have any trouble finding “Home Alone” or “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” and you’ll have some fun with it … I guarantee it!
