Hi! Today is Dec. 31 and is the final day of 2023. One of the biggest components of my blog is movie reviews. As of today, I’ve written reviews of 384 films and an additional 35 reviews of TV series and other efforts in entertainment presented on television or on the big screen.
For the whole of 2023, I wrote nine new reviews. I started off the year quickly with three reviews by Jan.
16, 2023, and then skipped forward and it wasn’t until June before writing the next. After three in August, I closed out the year with my final review on Dec. 17 with “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.”
By coincidence, I also wrote nine new reviews in 2022 and that was up from five in 2021. Ah well, tomorrow brings 2024 and you will find out how many I write as my blog reaches its 10th anniversary in May and I hopefully continue on through the end of the year.
Looking back at 2023, here are the films I wrote reviews about and they are in order of my writing them …
- “Jurassic World: Dominion” (posted Jan. 2) – here’s a total stinker in the “Jurassic” series and hopefully the last in that series.
- “Enter the Ninja” (posted Jan. 15) – here’s a “ninja” effort in the martial arts genre that is totally tacky, but watchable.
- “Breaker! Breaker!” (posted Jan. 16) – after watching the “ninja” film, I did a dose of Chuck Norris as an ass-kicking truck driver and here’s another tacky film that’s a little less likeable.
- “I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell” (posted June 11) – here’s an awful flick taken from a rancid book by a vulgar author. However, there are a couple of glimmers of watchable film here.
- “Tag” (posted Aug. 7) – here’s a true story mangled in style by Hollywood. A group of friends played “tag” (yes, that game for kids) and it turned into a decades-long obsession.
- “About My Father” (posted Aug. 14) – here’s one where the comedian co-headliner should have stayed on stage … and Robert De Niro shouldn’t have done it at all.
- “Free Guy” (posted Aug. 19) – here’s what I considered the most interesting film I reviewed in 2023. It’s the story of a computer-generated game character that comes to life through artificial intelligence. Check it out, it’s worthwhile.
- “Get Him to the Greek” (posted Aug. 27) – here’s one where I didn’t see real life coming – both Russell Brand the co-star and Sean “Diddy” Combs in the supporting cast do good work in this music-oriented, raunchy comedy-drama, but both would fall afoul of accusations of nasty behavior before the end of the year.
- “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” (posted Dec. 17) – here’s my last review of the year and I did a comedy classic because I enjoy the work of so many in the cast from headliner Will Ferrell to Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, David Koechner and Christina Applegate.
So, there you have the nine from 2023. You’ll pretty much be able to find them all, including the martial arts films, since most are on movie networks and streaming services. You will enjoy … hmmmm … most of them. I guarantee it!
