It’s movie time! ‘Death Wish’ with Charles Bronson is better than you remember

Hey everybody, it’s movie time! I’m re-writing the words from the start of a Styx hit song and saying today is “movie time!” For movie time today, let’s watch “Death Wish” with Charles Bronson. Please forget if you believe this is just a “Charles Bronson shoot-’em-up-special.” It is not such a film (they left that to the putrid sequels) and give me a chance to make my case.

“Death Wish” is the story of a New York City man whose life is destroyed when robbers break into his apartment, kill his wife and rape his daughter, who is so traumatized that she needs to be institutionalized.

Bronson, who plays the lead character, doesn’t just get a gun and go out cowboy-style and hunt down criminals and shoot them like the scum that, well, they are. Bronson has to evolve from quiet, conservative family man who was a conscientious objector in the military to a vigilante who stalks the subways and nighttime streets like a lion on the Serengeti.

“Death Wish” encompasses many emotions not only by Bronson, but by people he meets, from the supporter of firearms rights in Arizona (where Bronson’s company is designing a development) to even the cops who track him down.

You will find outstanding work by just about everyone and “Death Wish” carries a message far beyond the simple vigilantism that most “remember” it as its trademark.

You shouldn’t have any trouble finding “Death Wish” and you’ll find it to be a motion picture of some depth … I guarantee it!
