Hey everybody, it’s movie time! I’m re-writing the words from the start of a Styx hit song and saying today is “movie time!” For movie time today, let’s watch “Dirty Grandpa” with Robert De Niro and Zac Efron. Please don’t confuse “Dirty Grandpa” with Johnny Knoxville’s film of a similar name because the two, while both tops in puerile humor, are different.
In “Dirty Grandpa” you get De Niro,
who has just become a widower, and his grandson (Efron) on a road trip from Georgia to Boca Raton in Florida. However, it is the astoundingly vulgar and disgusting things that De Niro says to highlight the first quarter of the film that make you go, “OMG!” and “OMG!” again. De Niro’s only filter is that he doesn’t have one.
The casting of De Niro and Efron was a piece of wonderful foresight because the two mesh very well and you won’t have any trouble figuring out what will happen by the end of the film. Along the way, your “OMG!” turns into “DAMN!” and finally you’re glad “Dirty Grandpa” is over because filmmakers apparently ran out of humor and had to somehow end the film.
Here is the only review that re-wrote after posting on my blog. I was still in “OMG!” mode when I wrote the original review and then had to backtrack it a bit because of the lame ending and how the filmmakers couldn’t keep the comedy running full-tilt until the end.
In any case, do yourself a major service by watching “Dirty Grandpa.” You shouldn’t have any trouble finding “Dirty Grandpa” and when you do, you’ll be on the floor … I guarantee it! “OMG!”
