It’s movie time! ‘Jackie Brown’ is unquestionably the best by Tarantino

Hey everybody, it’s movie time! I’m re-writing the words from the start of a Styx hit song and saying today is “movie time!” For movie time today, let’s watch “Jackie Brown” from director Quentin Tarantino. In my opinion, “Jackie Brown” is simply Tarantino’s best over “Pulp Fiction” and the expansive “Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood.”

“Jackie Brown” is a film with Samuel L. Jackson as the murderous gun-runner “Ordell Robbie.” The character is supposed to be the epitome of evil and Jackson does a career best with “Ordell.” He simply oozes evil from the first moment he’s on-screen to the final moments of the film.

You simply have to see this movie if you haven’t already … and you need to revisit it immediately if you have seen it. “Jackie Brown” comes up just a tiny bit short against stunningly great crime drama such as “L.A. Confidential,” but, then again, very few films are worthy to be mentioned in the same breath as that one.

“Jackie Brown” is the name of the title character and is played to perfection by Pam Grier, who, as an icon in black cinema, had the movie written by Tarantino with her in mind. It is simply that Jackson’s work is just so over-the-top good that Grier can’t be called the best actor in “Jackie Brown.”

The most sublime and under-appreciated work is done by Robert Forster, who is introspective bail bondsman “Max Cherry.” Along with Robert De Niro as Jackson’s dense and amoral sidekick and Bridget Fonda as Jackson’s “surfer girl” at the beach, you get about as top-notch a cast as you could ever hope for in a motion picture.

So, get in gear! You won’t have any trouble at all finding “Jackie Brown” and when you do, you will find it an intense experience … I guarantee it!
